On 8 May a new village, Ban Theppratarn, was opened in Kuraburi, in which 110 Tsunami damaged persons from 32 families lives and work.
3 days after the tsunami hit Thailand and parts of Asia, a small group lead by Mike Bordon approached the Hon German Consul in Phuket to take over the patronage for Farang Jai Dee, which he gladly did on the condition that FJD will keep Admin Expenses to an absolute minimum.
Here we are 16 months later and with admin expenses of about 3 % of about Baht 25 Million or US$ 600.000, opening Theppratan Village for 110 persons from 32 families, of which about 40 are children and who lost everything on
December 26, 04.
Mike Bordon and his group of Phuket based businessmen and retirees’ first task was to find a suitable project for people really in need and away from the tourist centres of Phuket and Khao Lak. My March 2005 they found a remarkable man and partner in Ajarn Dun, the abbot of Wat Samakitham in Kuraburi. Farang Jai Dee and the abbot not only wanted to build new houses, new boats and create other worldly possessions for a group of humans who were homeless and mentally and physically up-rooted, but also we had the common aim to build a self sustainable, stable new community for these islanders on the mainland.
